The Salvation Army Education & Employment 18th December at 8:45am Last Friday we had a graduation morning tea for our Ritchies Drive A Bus Campaign. We had 5 students graduate into employment; Norma, Michael, Thomas, Bernie and Kay. Sharon (Whangarei centre tutor) says she is "So proud of everyone!"
The Salvation Army Education & Employment 12th December at 9:01am The students from Christchurch E&E spent the day helping out at the Linwood Corps, packing Christmas food hampers and sorting donated toys. All of those gifts came in banana boxes and the students emptied the boxes from the vans and then sorted each gift into age and gender categories. Today families are coming to the corps and receive gifts for their children. The students did a fantastic job and you can see from the end photo just how much work they put in today :-) Rachel (a Christchurch tutor) says she is "So proud of our students".

The Salvation Army Education & Employment 04th December at 9:41am The Phoenix Palms at Feilding Centre have for many years, been a home to on average, about fifty pigeons. Unfortunately the palm fronds hung over the public footpath and the pigeon droppings have been a significant issue. Complaints from the public resulted in a request from the local Council for E&E to fell the trees. This was a complex and expensive operation but was handled brilliantly by Captain Lachlan Marshall who organised the felling including the compliance requirements. Lachlan felled the trees with assistance from members of his South Wellington Corps. The payment made by E&E for the felling assisted with funding the youth volunteers, who are band members, to travel with the band to America. As can be seen from the girth of the very mature trees, the task was enormous. E&E extends thanks to Lachlan and his team of helpers, to the Feilding Corps who provided room and breakfast at the Corps for the volunteers to sleep over, and to the landscape gardener who gave permission for the fronds to be dumped at his property rather than E&E having to pay dump fees. It was thought there might be resistance from the locals to the felling of the trees given the trees have been there for decades. However, this has not been the case. Many very positive and encouraging comments have been received both during and after the process. The only ones who seem put out are the pigeons who have taken up residence on the cross bars of the lamp post which was alongside their favourite palm tree.

The Salvation Army Education & Employment 13th November at 9:06am Christchurch had its celebration last week. We love events like this where everyone involved can be bought together under one roof. It was a great morning tea full of celebration, reflection, food and socializing.

Kumara crew helps ex-prisoners change lives - employment training

Kumara has been helping some newly released prisoners get their lives back on track in Northland. The Salvation Army Education and Employment (E&E) Corrections Employment Services programme has been placing released prisoners into work in Northland and helping change their lives.
